The church's origins date back to the 11th century, but the current building was constructed in the 16th century. The first official mention as a parish church dates back to the 11th century, cited in papal bulls of 1179 and 1187 addressed to the bishops of Volterra.
It is an austere structure with a single nave and a plastered gabled façade, characterized by a portal surmounted by a semicircular arch and a circular window.
The interior reflects the 1911 restoration, with exposed beams and walls decorated with black and white bands; the neo-Renaissance altar and baptismal font also date from this period.
Inside, a late 17th-century Virgin and Child, an object of great veneration, is on display.
In a room adjacent to the church, in 1922, fragments of 14th-century frescoes depicting saints were discovered and restored.
