The Monastery of Santa Caterina della Rota is one of the most important historical sites in the medieval village of Radicondoli.

The monastery was formally founded on December 28, 1343, at the behest of the Bishop of Volterra, Ranuccio Allegretti. It was built on the site where a small pilgrim hospital dedicated to Saint Catherine had stood since 1334.

The structure housed cloistered Augustinian nuns for centuries, and between the 16th and 18th centuries, thanks to bequests, donations, and annexations, the complex expanded significantly.

It then operated as a girls' boarding school until the suppression of religious orders in 1866.

In the 20th century, it was transformed into an orphanage and, more recently, into a guesthouse.

The Municipality of Radicondoli recently purchased the entire historic building to transform it into a cultural center with exhibition spaces, study areas, and a historical archive.

The façade of the adjacent church retains a clear 14th-century brick appearance, and original elements are still visible, such as the pointed arch above the entrance and a characteristic rose window.

Inside, the church has a single nave and houses important works of art, including the canvas of the Baptism of Christ by the Sienese painter Astolfo Petrazzi.

The name "della Rota" refers to the instrument of martyrdom of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of the entire complex.
