The ancient parish church has been mentioned since 1214. In 1475, it was enriched with a triptych depicting Saint Michael and other saints by Benvenuto di Giovanni, later transferred to the parish church of Vescovado and replaced by a copy.
It was completely restored in the early 20th century in neo-Gothic style: three altars in pietra serena were built inside, with an ornate marble tabernacle on the high altar.
The site has seen a notable revival thanks to the activity of the Comunità Mondo Nuovo, which founded one of its centers there. The community has engaged in ongoing restoration of the architectural structure, which concluded in 1997 with the restoration of both the place of worship and its annexes.
The church was equipped with a new tabernacle sculpted by Chiara Tambani in 1997.
