The Grancia di San Giusto is an ancient fortified rural complex located at the southern edge of the municipality of Murlo, on a hilly terrain sloping towards the Ombrone River.
The first records of the site date back to 1164 and are linked to the ancient local parish church.
For centuries, it was owned by the Ranuccini family, who, through testamentary donations, ceded the property to the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala.
Under the management of the Hospital, it became a true grange, or fortified farm, and was responsible for managing the agricultural income of the area, which included numerous neighboring farms, including Mattioni, Poggio Cenni, Gonfienti, and Rigo Secco.
At the end of the 18th century, due to the disastrous economic conditions of the Sienese Spetale, the grange was put up for auction and sold in 1785.
