San Fortunato is a sacred building located in Murlo. Until 1778, it held the dignity of Cathedral of the Episcopal Fiefdom, as the Bishop of Siena officiated religious rites there when he stayed in the nearby palace.
The church has been mentioned since the 12th century, but the current building dates back to the late 16th century.
In the 17th century, the two transept altars were erected, made of colored stucco imitating polychrome marble. Two paintings were inserted into these altars: one by Astolfo Petrazzi, depicting Saints Blaise, Dominic, Catherine of Siena, and Sebastian adoring the Madonna and Child, and the other by Dionisio Montorselli, depicting the Assumption with Saint Blaise and a bishop saint.
The baptismal font also dates back to the late 17th century, but a 15th-century font was rediscovered inside the basin. It features carved festoons, a band decorated with foliage, and the Bernardine monogram. The church's patron saint is Saint Fortunatus of Todi.
