Castelnuovo rose in the center of the vast Berardenga territory, that since the X century, belonged to the descendants of a French dynasty, whose leader was Count Berardo, himself a descendant of Count Guinigi from Siena , between 867 and 881. Successively , the Berardenga family subdivided itself in different branches, that settled, during the XI century , in the castles of Valcortese, Monastero d’Ombrone, Ripalta, Monteaperti, Orgiale, Montalto. But the origin of Castelnuovo is attributed to Siena, whose General Council, in 1366, gave way to the construction of “Castel Nuovo”, in a strategic military position on the boundary of the Sienese territory. Successively , due to the War of Siena, that brought the town to submission to the Medici Grand Duchy, Castelnuovo was abandoned for a long time. The village is divided in two parts. The development of the town plan took place from the second half of 1700, mainly due to the interest of the Counts Chigi Saracini . One of the first proposals was the organization of the vast family possessions around the farm of the “Madonna di Provenzano”, whose headquarters were immediately transferred outside the village of Castelnuovo. The construction of the Villa with a vast park annexed , located on the high part of the village, promoted by Galgano Saracini ,was the second proposal. The Parish of Saint Giusto and Saint Clemente and the Chapel of the Villa were also built thanks to Galgano. During the 1800, the Church of the Company and the Officina Porcellotti were constructed. At the beginning of the last century the Township Palace was built. The rest of the village of Castelnuovo is the result of transformations throughout the centuries.
